Laylah Ali

Laylah Ali's work comes across as innocent and childlike, until you take a closer look. Many of Ali's pieces are laced with mature and dark subject matter. Her paintings delve into concepts like betrayal, relationships, resistance, and violence.
Ali mainly works with gouache, and the color of gouache she uses is very important to her since people can perceive different things based on the colors she uses.

Ali's works are fairly cartoony featuring unrealistic scenes and color choices. Her paintings are simple and flat because of the absence of shadow and depth. Due to the playful, childlike way she paints in combination with the sometimes gruesome subject matter she depicts, Ali's paintings can have an unsettling effect.
